Questions

A scan missed or picked the wrong card

Right after a scan, tap "Wrong card?" on the result card and pick the right one, or tap Undo. If the camera can't place a card, "Type it in" lets you search by name and number. Scans work best flat, in even light, without glare from a sleeve. If you can, email me the card's name, set and number so I can improve the scanner.

A card isn't in the app

ShinySnap covers English Pokémon TCG cards. New sets come in with catalog updates, not app updates. Could you send the card's name, set and number (bottom corner)? I'll check whether it's missing from the catalog.

A price looks wrong or is missing

Prices are the daily US market price for the ungraded card, so they can differ from a single sale, a graded copy or a shop's price. Open the app with a connection and it fetches the newest ones; without one it keeps showing the last ones it has. Settings shows the date of the prices you have. "No price yet" means the market has no price for that card yet, which happens with some promos and very new cards. Totals leave it out and say how many cards are without a price. A card whose price stopped keeps its last one, with that price's date on its page. Which card is it, and what does the "Price data" line in Settings › About say? I'll take a look.

Where do prices come from?

Prices are TCGplayer market prices in US dollars, for ungraded cards. ShinySnap loads them when you open the app online, at most once a day; nothing about you or your collection is sent with that. They're estimates, so a real sale can differ. Each card's "Marketplaces" row links to the stores and eBay.

What's free, what's Pro?

Free: 200 scans a month (price checks and trade compares count too), unlimited adding by search, up to 500 cards, 3 binders (one can be a wishlist), set progress, a 30-day value chart and a 7-day price trend per card, backup and CSV export. Pro removes the scan, card, binder and wishlist limits and adds set checklists with the missing cards and the full price history. Reaching a limit doesn't delete or hide anything.

Out of free scans

Free has 200 scans a month, and the count starts again on the 1st. Price checks and trade compares count as scans. Until then you can still add cards by search (the Search tab, or "Type it in" in the scanner), which has no limit. Settings › ShinySnap Pro shows how many you've used. Pro removes the scan limit. Nothing you saved is affected.

Lifetime or subscription?

Both unlock the same Pro: unlimited scans, no card, binder or wishlist limits, set checklists and the full price history. Monthly is $3.99, yearly $29.99, lifetime $89.99 once. If you'll use ShinySnap for more than about three years, lifetime costs less. Pro is tied to the store you buy it in, so it won't carry over between Android and iPhone.

Restore purchases

Open Settings (gear on Home) › ShinySnap Pro › Restore purchases. Use the same Google account (Android) or Apple Account (iPhone) you bought Pro with, and be online. If it says no purchase was found, email me the order number from your receipt email and I'll look into it.

Cancel a subscription

You can cancel any time. Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for, and cancelling doesn't delete any cards.

  • Android: in ShinySnap, Settings › Manage subscription, or Google Play › profile picture › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions › ShinySnap › Cancel subscription.
  • iPhone: in ShinySnap, Settings › Manage Subscription, or the Settings app › your name › Subscriptions › ShinySnap › Cancel Subscription.

Deleting the app does not cancel it.

Refund

Refunds go through the store:

  • Android, within 48 hours: play.google.com › profile picture › Payments & subscriptions › Budget & order history › Report a problem. After 48 hours, email me your order number (it starts with GPA.) and I'll look at it.
  • iPhone: Apple handles all refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com › "I'd like to" › Request a refund. I can't refund App Store purchases myself.
Moving to a new phone

Your collection lives on your phone, so move it with a backup:

  1. Old phone: Settings › Your collection › Save backup. Save the file somewhere you can reach from the new phone (Google Drive, iCloud Drive, email to yourself).
  2. New phone: install ShinySnap, then Settings › Your collection › Restore from a backup and pick the file.

Restoring adds to what's there; cards you already have are kept. Pro comes back from the store; if it doesn't show, tap Restore purchases. The phone's own backup (Android backup to your Google account, or an iCloud backup or Quick Start on iPhone) may bring the collection along too, but the backup file is the sure way.

Switching from Android to iPhone (or back)

The backup file is the same on both, so it moves across:

  1. Android: Settings › Your collection › Save backup, save it to Google Drive or email it to yourself.
  2. iPhone: save the file to Files, then in ShinySnap Settings › Your collection › Restore from a Backup.

Your binders, cards and conditions come along, with what your value chart needs to keep its past. Pro doesn't: purchases belong to Google Play or the App Store and can't move between them.

Data and privacy

ShinySnap has no account, no ads and no tracking. Your collection and the camera stay on your phone, and scanning runs there too. The app sends anonymous daily usage counts (how scans and updates went, which screens opened; never cards or anything that identifies you). Turn them off in Settings › Privacy › Share anonymous usage. The app downloads public price and card files, and card images from other services. Like any website, they see your IP address, and the image services also see which card images you load. I keep no logs. On Android, Pro purchases are checked through RevenueCat (a random app ID and the purchase receipts, no name or email). On iPhone, Apple checks Pro on the device. Full policy: shinysnap.app/privacy.

Delete my data

Everything is on your phone. Settings › Your collection › Delete everything erases every binder, card and value history (it offers to save a backup first). Deleting the app erases everything it stored too. Backup or spreadsheet files you saved yourself stay where you put them. On Android, an automatic backup may also sit in your Google account (Google Drive › Backups); on iPhone, a copy may sit in your iCloud backup until its next backup. If you bought Pro on Android and want the purchase record deleted from our payment check, email me and I'll do it. Deleting doesn't cancel a subscription (answer 6).

Japanese or other languages

Right now ShinySnap knows English Pokémon TCG cards only, so Japanese and other languages aren't recognized by the scanner and aren't in search. I don't have a date for other languages.

Prices in euros or another currency

Right now ShinySnap shows prices in US dollars only. I don't have a date for other currencies.
